Geronimo

Geronimo

Fourth in the Hindsight Series of mixed media work by Angie Haskell.

Geronimo, medicine man and warrior of the fierce Chiricahua Apache tribe, is one of the most famous leaders to defend his homeland from both Mexico and the United States. Although he is often referred to as “savage,” there could not be more a more inaccurate description. Authorities killed his loved ones, ravaged his people, and, at the end of his life, cruelly turned him into a traveling sideshow character. Using color to represent the contrast in cultures, the artist uses color in Geronimo’s bow and arrow to illustrate one of the most important parts off his past in which he refuses to surrender. 40" X 30"
